Choosing a word of the year can help you add more focus, guidance, purpose, and intention as you make your way through all that 2022 has in store for you.
With a New Year’s resolution, you either succeed or you fail. (If you’re like me, failure comes fairly quickly when I get so caught up in life that I forget about my resolution.) A resolution can set you up for failure from the very first moment you don’t feel you’ve lived up to the expectations you set for yourself. Then you experience feelings of guilt, dismay, disappointment, and worse. That is no way to start your year.
A “word of the year” is something that you apply to your life as you live it, all throughout the year. It’s a focus, not a specific action to take or fail to take. It allows room for flexibility as life changes throughout the year. Ultimately, a word of the year is empowering.
In this workshop, participants will work together as we:
- discuss categories of words and how a broad category can apply to our lives
- discuss individual words within categories and more specific ways they apply to our lives
- use mindfulness and intention to focus on what we value in our lives
- talk about what parts of ourselves we want to improve in the coming year
Some people are able to choose their word of the year very quickly and intuitively. Others approach the choice with lots of analysis and critical thinking, requiring more time to select their word. Plenty others fall somewhere in between. Whatever approach works for you is the right one. Please do not feel you must make your final word selection by the end of the workshop.
Each participant will receive a worksheet that we’ll use during class and that you can use after class if you need more time to choose your 2022 Word of the Year.
