Deck History
Although Tarot reading has been around since the Medieval times, the traditional deck that most Tarot card readers come to know and learn from was designed by Pamela Colman Smith in the early 20th century in England, under the instruction of Arthur Edward Waite. Smith was a renowned artist who worked with famous authors such as William Butler Yeats and Bram Stoker.
The Author
Previous to Smith’s re-imagination of Tarot cards, the images were quite simple and didn’t have the detailed, colorful illustrations that she originated. Inspired by the world around her, Smith added human images and bright colors to Tarot cards. We kept the integrity of her artwork by simply enhancing and modernizing the colors.
